I work in retail as everyone knows. I have for quite sometime now. The holidays are always the worse. The holidays are suppose to be a time of love, happiness, and peace on Earth. But all they really end up being is a time of stress and frustration. Or, at least that's what I see in my customers and even in myself. So, I've come up with a list of how not to make people in retail mad during this holiday season. Most importantly, the list is more for how not to make ME mad during this holiday season..haha!!
1. Read the return policy that usually prints out on the receipt from whatever store you go to. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT. I do not care if you know there is no way you will return it. I've learned that you never ever know what could happen. You are less likely to get crap if you come into a store with a receipt.
2. Do not tell me or any other person in retail that you have been shopping in our store for years and you don't understand why we won't take something back that is over a year old and obviously been worn numerous times. Because guess what?..Your neighbor has probably been shopping in our store for years too and they probably wouldn't try and return something over a year old that was worn in mud, rain, poop, and so on.
3. Understand that we are not the ones who come up with the prices for things. We are not the ones who decide what is on sale an what isn't on sale. All that is generated from the corporate level and the customer needs to understand that in giant corporations they don't care if a customer complains that dunlop tennis balls are not on sale this week.
4. Do not be rude to us. Now, if we are rude from the get go then by all means come back and be an ass. But do not start off being rude to us. That only makes us angry and will only make you angrier than you already are.
5. Finally, understand that we have families too and we have to do Christmas shopping as well. We want to be with our families and friends. So, do not stay in stores pass the closing times on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve. We have lives too even though it seems like those in retail don't.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
